Pupil Premium Grant

All members of staff, governors and teaching assistants accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within the school environment.

The Pupil Premium Champion is Miss J Ashton, she is supported by Mr Charles Dent our Governor.

Alkborough Primary School is committed to ‘Closing the Gap’ between vulnerable pupils and their peers. The Pupil Premium will form a vital part of that process. 

What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

The pupil premium grant was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’). Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, and children of service personnel. The Government believes that the pupil premium grant, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for FSM and their peers.

Where does the money come from?

The funding is given to schools to spend as they think best, although there is a requirement to publish online how this money is spent.

Pupil Premium at Alkborough Primary School

 Alkborough Primary School receives a pupil premium grant for each child who is:

• eligible for free school meals
• whose parents serve in the Armed Forces
• and children who have been looked after in local authority care continuously for more than six months

At Alkborough Primary School, we are committed to ensuring all our children make the best possible progress. We track the achievement of every child on a regular basis and do all we can to make sure each child achieves their potential. We also have a duty to ensure that no group of children are disadvantaged due to their gender, ethnic origin or family income or background.

The Governing Body of the school decided that this grant should be spent as follows: 

• 1:1 and small group support (Teaching Assistants)
• Subsidised day/residential trips
• Music tuition
• Purchase of additional resources (ICT software, SEN/Gifted & Talented resources, intervention programme materials).
• Wide range of extracurricular activities

Children are not singled out or stigmatised, the Pupil Premium funding has allowed us to continue and extend what we already do – to monitor children’s progress and to give additional support when required.
